Parenting Tips – Babies In Cars

You can be confident that your infant’s head and neck are well supported in the majority of car seats. The fact that a car seat with a handle, allows you to carry your child from place to place, without having to wake them up and remove them from their seat, is one of the advantages that parents love.

A car seat’s primary purpose, though, is to safely transport your child in a vehicle. Some people may be under the impression that it is difficult to reattach an infant’s car seat in the car each time the seat is removed, but the majority of car seats are designed for easy installation into the vehicle. When the car seat is hooked in, and your baby is belted in the seat, you should examine the seat to be sure that it is correctly secured.

Your baby will be kept quite cozy in their car seat, but you should not leave them in their car seat for extended periods. If you will be taking a long car trip, allow time to pull over and let your baby have a break from the car seat periodically.

Although it is not recommended, a number of parents will step out of the vehicle and allow their child to remain in their car seat, in the car. Prolonged periods of time spent in a reclined position in their car seat, can result in breathing problems for premature infants.

Infants with a gastric reflux condition, will be prone to vomiting when sitting in this position. The point is, that no infant, whether they have a health condition or not, should be allowed to remain in their baby car seat or buggy for more time than is absolutely necessary.

You should avoid using your baby’s car seat for them to sleep in, if there is a crib or pram that could be used instead.

A nap of several hours in the baby car seat will not harm your healthy infant. You should, however, avoid leaving your infant in their car seat for prolonged periods of time.

Consistency matters everywhere. In case of potty training also, parents as well as kids are needed to show consistency. Schedule needs to be created which should be followed by both the participants of training. From diaper to panties or underwear is a big change, so child slowly and slowly follows each and every tip.

Sometimes it happens that kid doesn’t show interest in bathroom activities. Best solution for this problem is that parents try to avail potty in the room where televisions is available to entertain the kid. He/she will grab more easily while watching favorite program or movie on television. In short, TV programs or any toy which can hold attention of kid during training should be used.

Girls typically show interest for potty training around age of 18 months to age of 2 ½ years. But it varies in case of boy child. For boys, the typical age is around 3 to 3 ½ years. This is just the average because active boy child may also show interest in less age. Some boys have been noticed to get potty trained at age 2. One need to look for the cues your child is ready for the training.

If one’s child shows discomfort in staying dry during bed time or nap time, showing interest towards use of potty, then it means that he/she is ready to get training. potty training should be treated as fun filing and positive for kid because it is a learning experience for the child. One should not be frustrated, discouraged or angry on any condition over the boy or girl.

Instead of showing anger on child, parents are required to appreciate for small sign of performing better by kid. Appreciations may be like hugging the baby or gifted favorite things to him/ her like any dress, chocolate or toy even.

potty training is one of the best ways to build strong bond with children. Make every step a routine so that child makes it a habit and start doing the same by self after some time. Hence, in this way, a kid can easily receive potty training and become a smart kid.

Is my Dropside Cot safe?

The recall of over 9 million dropside cots in the US has led many UK parents to question the safety of their cot. Now one UK manufacturer, Cosatto, has recalled one batch of its Paris Cot and has issued a repair kit for another model, the Stratford Cot Bed.

The CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) of the USA has proposed that they should be banned from sale in the US and removed from all hotels and nurseries. This ban is very likely to be passed by Congress by the end of the year. The CPSC had received reports of 32 infant and toddler suffocation and strangulation deaths and hundreds of incidents caused by or related to drop-side detachments in cots by various manufacturers

So why are they considered more dangerous?  According to the CPSC, “dropside cribs generally have a tendency to be less structurally sound than cribs with four fixed sides.”

Dropsides can be a godsend for shorter parents who struggle to lift their baby out of the cot. However, it would be sensible to take the following precautions as recommended by the CPSC:

* Every time you change the sheets, check that all visible hardware – every bolt, screw, track and clamp – is securely in place.

* Make sure the drop-side is on its track and functions well.

* With the mattress out of the cot, wiggle all the cot to see how tight all the joints are.

* If the cot remains wobbly after tightening all hardware, look for loose wood-to-wood joints that may be causing the problem.

* Stop using the cot if loose wood-to-wood joints are found or if you cannot fully tighten any screw.

The CPSC also warns that cots older than 10 years old should not be used or any broken or modified cots.

Top 4 Tips For Reading With Your Toddler

There are so many transitions for you and your child when your baby becomes a toddler. It’s out with the baby nappies and hopefully the majority of sleepless nights too. One of the funnest activities you can have with your toddler is reading. Here, we’ve listed the top four tips on how to get the most out of reading time with your toddler.

Take time out of everyday to read aloud with your toddler

It is important to take time out of everyday for reading. This time should be a time of day you both look forward to. It should be fun and exciting. Be animated and laugh a lot. Listen to the way you tell the story. Be loud and exciting. If you’re having fun and enjoying the time reading, your toddler will too.

It is also a good idea to read at least three stories a day. Even if they are the same three. Children will need to hear a thousand stories before they will begin to read.

You should spend at least ten minutes a day reading with your little one.

Talk to them about the other aspects of the book as you read

It is important that as you read you talk about other aspects of the book. Such as the pictures and what will happen next. Point to images and ask them what they are. Perhaps you have read this story with them several times and you might want to ask them what they think will happen next.

Talk about other things that relate to the book. It is great to just talk to your toddler and expose them to lots of words and language.

Choose the right type of book

The type of books you choose to read with your toddler should be short, have rhythm and repetition. This is a great way to help children learn to read. Repetition is so important. Encourage your toddler to finish the rhyme with you. It may seem obvious, but it is also important to read over and over the books that your toddler loves as they are more likely to engage with something they truly enjoy.

It is important that you don’t teach reading as such or get tense around books.

Play fun games with your child as you read

To keep reading fun, it is a good idea to play games as you read. For instance, pick out letters from the pages you are reading from. Or pick out with them the letters on the page their name starts with. Ask them to finish a rhyme for you. Keep it upbeat and entertaining.

When your child is a toddler there is so much for them to learn. Their transition fromnappies to using a potty/toilet, reading and socialising with other children. The most important thing to remember is to have fun with your toddler and enjoy activities like reading with them as much as possible during this precious time.
