Many British Homes are Unsafe for Children
The belief that dangers are only present outside of the home is a common misconception, shared by many members of the British public. Every year over 390,000 children are taken to hospital for trips, falls, burns and other accidents that have happened within their own homes.
Accidents can happen in any room of the home or garden with the most common involving stairs and kitchens. They can range from very minor to serious with injuries being anything from a bump to a break.
There are a few ways in which you can ensure that your home is the safe place that it is intended to be. Firstly if you have young children, including babies and toddlers it is best to view the world from their eyes and look at low down objects to establish what they have access to. As a good starting ground child safety products such as plug socket covers, door and draw locks are essential.
One of the easiest ways to cut the potential for accidents within the home is to install a child safety gate in any area that you feel it is not safe for your baby to go. For example to avoid hot water and burns related incidents within the kitchen, you can attach a safety gate to the kitchen door rather than child proofing the entire kitchen.
You can also avoid accidents by being aware of your actions. A hot cup of tea on the coffee table and a young child does not make for a good combination. Tidy away and keep objects that are not suitable for children out of reach – this includes handbags as children love nothing more than ransacking them.
There are lots of child safety products available both on the high street and online but during my research I came across a child safety product supplier that had just about every child safety product that you could ever need. Based in Herefordshire, Safetots have been established since 2003 and have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to keeping children safe. They even have a fantastic tool that turns choosing a safety gate from being a tedious chore to a simple and pain free shopping experience.
